Certainly, it provokes arguments and drama (but what doesn't?)...

I've noticed that Facebook has become "cleaner" as more parents, relatives, etc., get on board. That is, teenagers are being "friended" by aunts, uncles, etc., which is forcing the kids to keep their dramatics to a minimum.

As for teachers on Facebook, how do teachers not realize that they can have both a personal account and a professional account? Keep the personal account private, and make the professional account more career-related (and something that students and parents can see).

http://studenthandouts.blogspot.com/Ahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09798130971609314363noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5937205822682397549.post-4741162717554804892010-04-17T20:37:19.440+01:002010-04-17T20:37:19.440+01:00Hi - I work on a fairly regular basis in a primary...Hi - I work on a fairly regular basis in a primary school and have had several requests from children to be their FB friend.

I usually tell them in the nicest way to get in touch when they are 18 and have left school.

I do agree - cyber bullying is a new addition to what us old fogies had to contend with!

Nice blog posts btwJuliet Robertsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07035975039896986525noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5937205822682397549.post-49941013656483709372010-04-10T22:08:09.444+01:002010-04-10T22:08:09.444+01:00Oh and thanks for the link!

Facebook creates ...A very thought provoking post... Facebook creates all sorts of interesting dilemas in school life. An old colleague of mine thinks that it will be illegal for teachers to use social networking sites before long because of the issue of teachers' 'private activities' no longer being private. It's not just pupils you have to be careful of either - I rarely use my Facebook account anymore because a member of my department who is my friend online was promoted and is now my HoD - it makes me think twice about anything I post as I feel that my professionalism has to extend to my profile.

And as for pupils being your 'friend'? I can't even imagine why teachers do this! It's not just that I don't want the kids to know about my life outside school - but I really don't want to know about theirs!Samacunoreply@blogger.com
